About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Coventry’s FarGo Village, Kerala Cafe is a must-visit destination for anyone craving an authentic taste of South Indian, specifically Kerala, cuisine. This charming eatery brings the rich culinary heritage of Kerala to life with an impressive menu that showcases both traditional and innovative dishes crafted from fresh, aromatic spices and local ingredients.

From the moment you step inside Kerala Cafe, you’re greeted by a relaxed and welcoming ambiance that immediately makes you feel at home. The warm, inviting atmosphere is perfect for everything from casual lunches to intimate dinners, where the focus is truly on savoring the layered flavors of Kerala’s food culture.

The menu is a delicious journey through Kerala’s coastal and spice-infused fare. Signature dishes like the Malabar Chicken Biriyani and the Fish Pollichathu offer fragrant, perfectly balanced spices that excite the palate while honoring authentic recipes. The Parotta Beef Roast and flaky Kizhi Porotta are exceptional examples of how well-prepared parottas should be: soft, layered, and slightly crisp. If you’re a fan of street food, don’t miss the Pani Puri and Chicken 65, which provide a delightful burst of texture and spicy tanginess.

The appetizers such as Chicken Momos and Veg Momos are wonderfully light yet full of flavor, setting the tone for the meal ahead. For a truly indulgent experience, the Maharaja Kizhi is a generous, richly spiced dish that beckons those who enjoy hands-on dining and bold tastes, as echoed by satisfied diners.

Kerala Cafe also invites you to unwind with their comforting cups of chai, which multiple patrons have praised for being the quintessential Kerala comfort drink—perfectly spiced, warm, and soothing. Complementing your meal with refreshing beverages like Kingfisher beer or a unique fusion like Korean Chilli Chicken adds an exciting twist to the traditional menu.

Customer experiences paint a vivid picture of the Kerala Cafe magic. Maria Teresa Sagucio marveled at the “fragrant and flavorful” biryanis and “flaky and soft” porottas, while Abin Papachan Baby found the beef roast “rich and tender,” and chicken chukka “just the right amount of spice.” Indira I.V. captures the nostalgic vibe perfectly, describing the ambience as reminiscent of a Kerala trip, making the dining experience deeply personal and memorable.

Kerala Cafe’s friendly and attentive service complements its culinary excellence, with staff like the manager Alex being noted for adding a personal touch that makes guests feel truly welcomed. The setting, food, and care combined create an authentic Kerala dining experience that not only satisfies hunger but also stirs fond memories and a longing for the region’s vibrant food culture.

Had an amazing meal at Kerala Cafe! We ordered the chicken biryani, mutton biryani, porotta, pani puri and chai and everything was absolutely delicious. The biryanis were fragrant and flavorful, with tender meat and perfectly cooked rice. The porotta was flaky and soft, just how it should be. And the chai? Comfort in a cup! The service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We left full and happy. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic South Indian food! We are definitely coming back.

Excellent, authentic kerala food. I ordered Maharaja kizhi, which I was having for the first time and had a very generous portion size. So, order that if you have a good appetite. The maharaja kizhi itself is not for people who don't like getting their hands messy or don't like soggy food, I liked it very much and would have it again. Tap water was not available when I asked for it. The curries were excellent and tasted just like at home and the prices are very reasonable.

Yummy yummy Kerala tasting food in Coventry. UK. We were on a trip to Coventry to visit St Michael's cathedral. August 2025. Nice weather. Walked to Kerala Cafe for lunch. When we entered the hotel itself, the ambience made us long for our trip back to Kerala. We had lunch with sardine fry.....mmmmm.....yes! Yummy. Here are few pictures

We tried the chicken chukka, beef roast, chicken curry, and chicken biryani—every dish was packed with authentic Kerala flavours. The beef roast was especially rich and tender, and the chicken chukka had just the right amount of spice. The biryani was fragrant and satisfying, and the curry felt truly homemade. Friendly service and a cosy setting made the experience even better. Definitely a go-to spot for real Kerala food in Coventry.
